Tin 202 on 202 High Street, Morgantown, West Virginia is no stranger to craft cocktails. In fact, they pride themselves on honoring history, tradition, and creativity. They pour small-batch spirits, mix with hand-pressed juices, and utilize fresh and local ingredients every single day. Their Beverage Director, Josh Graham, has been bartending for seven years, but has been in charge of Tin 202’s cocktail, beer, and wine lists for over a year; taking his knowledge and introducing the wonderful town of Morgantown to new and exciting drinks.
On April 2, 2016, Josh Graham entered a Cocktail Challenge hosted by Steve Fletcher and Beehive Bitters Co on Instagram. Sending in a specialty recipe called the Industry Standard, this creative mind competed with several others from across the country, where he found himself in the top four, and eventually found himself the winner!
With many recipes to choose from, the simple but tasteful cocktail of candied rosemary, Pikesville Rye Whiskey, Aperol, freshly squeezed lemon juice, and honey made its way to the top. With this winning drink, Josh was sent a prestigious prize package that included a full set of Beehive Bitters, which held the citrus 3-pack and coffee & cacao bitters, as well as the Bourbon Barrel Aged Caramelized Orange bitters. On top of that, a gifted hardcover copy of the Death & Co: Modern Classic Cocktails book, a set of four hand-made “Grave Digger” martini picks, and a Library Hand-Cut Glass Decanter from Pottery Barn. All an excellent package to the winner of an excellent drink.
Although this contest won’t be featured in any magazine or newspaper, it is still a testament to the time and dedication our creative bartenders put into their drinks; so the next time you are in Downtown Morgantown, explore something new, try an old favorite, or ask to have something crafted just for you!
